About the Role:
A popular Ballarat dining venue is seeking a hands-on, creative Head Chef to lead a close-knit kitchen team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a culinary professional to take ownership of menu direction, staff leadership, and kitchen performance in a busy regional setting. The Head Chef will play a pivotal part in enhancing the reputation of a venue known for memorable dining experiences enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design innovative, seasonal menus, daily specials, and function offerings to attract locals and tourists.
  • Lead, inspire, and train a diverse kitchen team; manage rostering and ensure high morale.
  • Control all kitchen operations: stocktakes, ordering, supplier negotiations, food safety, and waste minimisation.
  • Uphold quality and presentation standards for all menu items before service.
  • Work collaboratively with management and front-of-house on events, promotions, and smooth service delivery.
  • Ensure full compliance with OH&S and food safety regulations, plus ongoing staff training.
  • Contribute to budgeting, cost control, and kitchen financial reporting.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a high-volume kitchen, with at least 2 years as Head or Sous Chef.
  • Strong track record in kitchen team leadership, menu development, and food cost management.
  • Commercial Cookery qualification (Cert IV or equivalent) preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and public holidays as required

Salary & Benefits:
